Building sandcastles on the Costa Brava

Staying on the Costa Brava is even more fun in Empuriabrava. This coastal city is also called the Venice of Spain. A few steps and you are by the seaside. There is a network of canals throughout the city which form one large marina. So, it is bustling with activities everywhere. There are many restaurants and shops. Empuriabrava is a lively city with a luxurious ambience. The large yachts in the marina are a feast to the eyes. During the day as well as in the evenings, go for a lovely stroll over the beautiful boulevard by the beach. During the day, you can browse in the many shops with souvenirs, clothing and beach accessories. Or you can wander past the stalls at the weekly market. In the evenings, you search for a restaurant to suit your taste. Spanish tapas or a plate of chips, you can get them all here.

Spotting marsh birds

Empuriabrava was once one big marsh. The area by the city is still swampy. It is an important nature reserve where many bird species live. It's a lovely place to go walking or cycling. Don't forget your binoculars! Another cycling destination is Camino Natural de la Muga. This path goes inland and follows the river. You cycle past marshes and salt pans.
It is also worth going further afield. Get into the car and discover the beautiful beaches or Medieval villages, churches and castles in the hinterland. Girona is the closest big city and easy to reach from Gran Reserva for a day trip.
